As head of our family business for the past ten years, and with a passion for local food and the South West region, I’m proud to be working with Tesco and the Bristol Post to encourage Bristol school children aged 7 to 14 to bake their cheesiest recipes in this year’s Cheesy Bake Off competition.

At Wyke Farms we believe cooking with the family is a really special thing. It’s about learning, using quality ingredients and most importantly having fun.  I certainly have fond memories of making cheese with my grandmother as a young boy, I cook regularly with my children, and I am very proud that Ivy’s recipe is being sold to Tesco and across the world today.

Bristol’s Cheesy Bake Off gives children and their families and/or school teachers the chance to get together and create something different with our Cheddar. There’s a great incentive to enter with the winning child being crowned ‘Bristol’s Best Young Baker’, winning a £100 Tesco voucher for themselves and a huge £5,000 worth of cookery equipment for their school.

We know that there are lots of talented children in the South West and are hopeful that we will see some new and very exciting, unique methods of baking with our Cheddar as the competition moves forward. I am certainly looking forward to the live Bake Off final!

There’s a great synergy between, Wyke Farms as a family owned brand, and the Bristol Cheesy Bake Off campaign. The art of traditional cheese making will never be lost on our Somerset farm where my family, the Clothier’s, have been making Cheddar since 1861. Encouraging children and their parents, carers and teachers to cook interesting recipes using our cheese means they are using a product which is natural, and comes directly from a local producer. As a Tesco supplier Wyke Farms are keen to educate and help young children understand where their food comes from and want to encourage children to think about the locally sourced ingredients that are available in the retailer’s stores in the South West.

Think your child or a child you know has what it takes to be the next West Country Bake Off star? Head to: bristolpost.co.uk/cheesybakeoff to find out more. Entries close Sunday 17th April 2016. Good luck!
