The Virtual Cheese Awards
With the last months having proven a challenging time for many businesses and with many events and shows in the dairy industry being cancelled. All the annual cheese awards have been postponed due to Covid-19 for 2020 and as a result of this, the first Virtual Cheeses Awards have been created and are set to take place next month in support of British cheesemakers and dairy farmers.
The Virtual Cheese Awards are brainchild of Nigel Pooley, Cheese Grading and Product Quality Development Manager at Wyke Farms and Dairy Industry Expert and Consultant, Sarah De Wit who between them have combined experience of over 85 years of all things dairy!
The awards cover 31 British classes of cheese including Creamery Vintage Cheddar, Best Cheshire, Best Lancashire, Best Wensleydale, Best stilton, Best Organic Hard Cheese and a range of artisan cheeses. The classes will be judged online on the 18th July with a series of events and finishing off by announcing Supreme Champion.
The aim of the awards is to raise awareness of UK producers, celebrate the Cheese industry and raise funds to support dairy and agriculture charities that help producers and farmers. All profits will be donated to the Specialist Cheesemakers Association and RABI (Royal Agriculture Benevolent Institution) for their continued support of British farmers and dairy producers.
Good luck to all the entrants!
