On what could be one of the last hot summery days of this year, we took a bit of time to reflect on how important and beautiful the County we work and live in is. It’s warm Summers, fruitful Springs, crisp Autumns and wet Winters give our land everything it needs to keep being the perfect home for us and our cows. But it’s not just our home, it’s also home to the nation’s most loved cheese.

The unique climate that we enjoy here creates lush, green pastures for our cows to graze on, ensuring that we not only get creamiest milk from happy cows, but that our Cheddar matures into it’s distinctive nutty, rounded and full flavour. It’s all part of our Grandmother Ivy’s recipe, which hasn’t changed in the 150 years we’ve been using it – and Somerset is right at the heart of it.

So here’s to you Somerset, we shall have a traditional Cider in your honour this evening, thank you for a beautiful Summer – bring on the crisp, beautiful Autumn. There is no ugly season in our eyes, it’s all part of the Somerset Cycle and season by season we will do all we can to look after you, like you look after us.
